Our Story

How we met

We first met in the Summer of 2010 working as lifeguards at Zoombezi Bay. While we had quite a few mutual friends, our paths didn’t cross much outside of work and we remained distant acquaintances for nearly 4 years. (Rachel does remember sitting with a friend who pointed out Benjamin across the room on her very first day as a lifeguard. Little did she know that was her future husband!)

First date

Shortly after Rachel graduated OWU in 2014, we began bumping into each other at parties hosted by mutual friends from the waterpark. Benjamin made the first move by asking for Rachel’s number over facebook messenger and our first date was July of 2014. We started the night with dinner at Thurman’s Cafe in German Village and then headed over to Schiller park to see The Barber of Seville presented by the Actor’s Theater of Columbus. Needless to say we both had a great time and the rest was history!

Proposal

After dating for six and a half years, we got engaged on December 28th, 2020 at the top of a cliff in Red River Gorge, Kentucky. We had been planning a hiking trip to relax after a stressful Christmas season and it was the perfect setting to get engaged. Benjamin asked Rachel to marry him at turtle back arch on the first day of the trip, and we spent the next few days celebrating together before announcing to our friends and family on New Years Eve.
